Each encapsulated word was individually removed from a lengthy, undated handwritten petition to the Court from the young lawyer McKinley advocating on behalf of his client, a battered wife in Stark County, Ohio, against her husband who deserted her and her infant daughter. McKinley would later go on to become the Prosecuting Attorney for Stark County.
