Select Your Word

Offered for the first time ever - handwritten words from Founding Father and fifth President of the United States James Monroe encapsulated by Beckett. Each handwritten word was carefully removed from a note written by Monroe.

Each order will include one authentic Monroe handwriting fragment selected from the dropdown menu. An example of the selection of Monroe words can be seen in the 2nd photo. You will receive one authentic piece of President Monroe's penmanship encapsulated by Beckett.

Each word has been removed from partial draft of a note by Monroe, sent from London in 1807 as Minister to the United Kingdom. Likely sent to either President Thomas Jefferson or Secretary of State James Madison, Monroe’s note sought assurances regarding safe passage of a British merchant carrying arms for the U.S. purchased from Holland. The British wanted assurances that the arms would not fall into the hands of their French enemies.

Genuine Monroe documents can often sell for thousands of dollars. The cost of authenticating a single word of Monroe's handwriting is $75 on Beckett's website.
