Each word has been removed from a handwritten letter Dickens wrote to his friend "Dolly". Dickens wrote the letter on September 12th, 1866 regarding planning seeing her that week. Dickens was busy that year having written his short story The Signal Man first published in the Christmas Edition of All Year Round.
